One veteran saw a need. A community answered. And a Korean War veteran got back something essential to his everyday independence.

After two decades of serving our country, one Navy veteran needed help finding a place to call home. After navigating a divorce and returning to Oxnard, U.S. Navy vet, Juan faced a new challenge: finding stable housing and rebuilding his independence. Juan is now settled into his new home in Ventura County, with an opportunity to move forward and build long-term stability.

For Michael, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, his seated walker was more than just a mobility aid. For three years, he affectionately called it his “Black Cadillac.” But after countless trips in and out of vehicles, his trusted walker began to break down, making everyday mobility more difficult. That’s when a county social worker reached out to us for help.

U.S. Navy veteran Jerry had been living in his Ventura apartment for a year and a half when he reached out to GCVF for a few furniture pieces. GCVF team members picked up a pair of upholstered chairs and a small dresser and delivered them directly to Jerry.

When a social worker at Oxnard Family Circle Adult Day Health Care Center, reached out about Army veteran Mitch, she shared that his wheelchair was becoming worn and increasingly difficult for him to use. Our team had several wheelchairs with individual issues, so we combined the best components to create one fully functioning chair.

After years of homelessness, an Army veteran was ready for a change. Through a referral from the Salvation Army, he connected with GCVF and found a team willing to meet him where he was.
